Understanding Behavior Through a Brain-Based Lens
The FASCETS Neurobehavioral Approach provides a brain-based way of understanding differences in behavior and functioning. Rather than assuming that a person won't meet an expectation, the approach helps us consider whether differences in brain function may mean that they can't meet that expectation in the way or timeframe we expect.
Participants learn to recognize brain-based differences, adjust expectations, identify accommodations, and develop supports that better fit the individual.
The approach was developed through work with Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorders (FASD) and can provide a useful framework for understanding and supporting people with a variety of brain-based differences.
